Be Like Water
“Be like water, when you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, pour it on the ground, it becomes the ground. See water can flow, and it can crash, BANG! Be like water my friend.” – Bruce Lee
It’s quite funny actually, when I first met Reggie and learned about Skyblue I wanted to be it so badly. I was jealous, “how does this even work” I’d recall myself saying. Those next two years in college I found myself observing, reading facial expressions, learning lingo, taking snaps at 3am on Greek Row, and yet nothing. It felt just like 7th grade sitting in Zumies thinking, “which LRG is in, which one will they like.” You see that’s just it, conformity in its most pure form inhibits individuality, creativity, and leadership. It stockpiles followers like a landfill, each with their own loathing for excitement, looking in all the wrong places, with all the wrong filters. What entrepreneur created a product or business using the exact methods of his predecessors? When did a treasure hunter find his booty under the rock most over turned? Once I stopped doing what everyone else did, and started doing what I found exciting, I became the embodiment of Skyblue. I live in East Africa, run a production house, build bungalows in Zanzibar, practice Kung Fu in dark rooms, drink tea with Germans discussing Asian philosophy, meditate in mountains, smoke hash joints with Rasta’s, read Asimov novels and love all sentient beings. It’s not that I hoped for this life, nor could I of ever predict it. I just looked inside, cut the bullshit, and did what made me happy. Skyblue is the tiny perl in the vast emptiness of oyster walls, all that noise, all that distraction. Find whatever it is, fall in love with it, and never look back. Skyblue isn’t the cup; it’s the water, its you. So the only question that remains..... What does your Skyblue look like?
